A recent article in the Telegraph made the case for a resurgence in American manufacturing. The conditions are right for manufacturers to being resourcing to America. Wage inflation in China is growing by double digits, making it less affordable to produce there. Additionally, China steals a lot of technology from companies, produces unreliable products and costs a lot to ship from.
The dollar is also weak, giving US producers an advantage over the eurozone countries. US wages have also been stagnant for a decade, making labor more affordable here.
There is some evidence of this shift, as Ford recently announced that it will be relocating its commercial truck assembly from Mexico to Avon Lake, Ohio. It is rare you hear that type of announcement. This could be the beginning of a resurgence of the phrase American Made.
